The New Moon in Cancer
Following the Full Moon in Capricorn we had on the 21/22 of June, we’re having a New Moon occurring at 14°53 in Cancer; you can expect this lunar transit to be lighter then the one before! This will be happening very early in the morning on July 6 for those in Europe, and on July 5 around dinner time for North America (00:57 CEST). Instead of the moon being in its detriment this time, it’ll be in its domicile in the opposite sign, offering a moment of softness in the lunar cycles. In addition, the New Moon will be co-present Venus, offering a supportive and welcoming energy to the themes found in the house where Cancer occupies in your chart. But before we get into what this means for each rising sign, let’s take a look at the decan of Cancer II and what we can expect to pop-up during this New Moon.
The Cancer II decan is referred to as “The Walled Garden” by Austin Coppock, which is further reinforced through its couriers Mercury and Mars. This decan is all about protecting and sustaining what you’ve created, whether it be a passion project, relationship, or garden which highlights the Mars aspects of this decan. When you care about something deeply, you protect it to the best of your abilities, but with protection comes the responsibility of sustaining what’s being protected as well. Kira Ryberg summarizes it best when she says that “it is not only about what is being kept out of the garden, but also about what is being nourished, supported and brought to life on the inside.” Our care doesn’t end at protection, and Cancer II urges us to breathe life into what we wish to keep alive, which I think perfectly illustrates why Mercury is a coruler of this decan. The 3 of Cups is the Tarot card corresponding to this decan, and we can see this Mercurial side of the decan shine through in the imagery as the women toast their 3 glasses in a luxurious garden (also represented in the oracle card above). Once they’ve made a toast, they will continue to enjoy themselves by socializing and being present in the environment they’ve helped to create. Mercury in this case highlights the things we can do inside the walls of our garden, like teaching and learning from each other, gathering with our loved ones, and having fun.
With this in mind, it’s safe to say that this New Moon will definitely oppose the prior Full Moon in terms of overall vibes. July 6 happens to be one of the most auspicious days of the month, especially when it comes to things like social gatherings and building upon already existing relationships. This lunar transit is really urging us to pour ourselves into our communities and relationships, as they are an extension of ourselves and our growth in this life. Much like a garden, our relationships to individuals and society wilt if not tended to adequately, so don’t hesitate to get outside and connect for the sake of connection and interpersonal understanding! You’d be surprised by how much this will help feed the soul at this time.
Another interesting thing about this New Moon, is that it aspects Saturn and soon after, Mars later in the day. Funnily enough, a few hours before the new Moon is exact we’ll have a Mars-Saturn trine, so I think it’s important to note when discussing this lunar transit, especially since this transit speaks about slow and methodical building on your plans/goals. It might not be the best time to start a new business/project, but working on attaining these goals precisely and carefully will indeed be paying off in the long-run! Again, we’re seeing this theme of nurturing what we’ve given life to already from Cancer II being reiterated through other aspects on that day; though this might not be the end goal, it’s a crucial step to getting there. When you come into contact with the manifestation of this lunar transit in your own life, ask yourself “how can I make this better for myself and those around me?”
